Staff from Bandelier National Monument and NMDGF will be stocking RGCT into Capulin Creek the morning of Tuesday October 19th. They have requested volunteers from TU and NM Trout to help carry fish down into Capulin Canyon. It is a relatively steep hike into the canyon on a unmaintained trail similar to the hike into Frijoles Canyon, so keep that in mind when volunteering. The hiking distance is about 2 1/2 miles each way
Volunteers should meet at the St Peters Dome Trailhead at 8 AM October 19th. The road to the trailhead can be rough so 4×4 vehicles are recommended. Space at the trailhead is limited, so carpooling is recommended. Volunteers will need a backpack to carry about 20 pounds of fish plus water, as well as drinking water and food for the hike. Weather is unpredictable that time of year so be prepared. We will be packing fish rain or shine.
WHEN: 8:00 AM, Tuesday, October 19
WHERE: Meet at the St. Peter’s Dome trailhead
DIRECTIONS: From Albuquerque drive north on I-25 to Highway 550, take SR 4 through Jemez Springs toward the Valles Caldera National Preserve. A few miles past the turnoff to the VCNP visitor center go right (south) on Forest Road 289. In about 6 miles +/- FR 142 joins from the left(east). Take it to the trailhead.
