Update, April 4: All available slots for volunteers have been filled. The next Available project date is May 14.
Rio Grande Return will be hosting volunteer workdays at their riverscape restoration projects on the second Wednesday of each month of the 2025 work season. The first day will be April 9, 2025 on the Rio Cebolla in the Jemez Mountains (upstream of Seven Springs Hatchery). Rio Grande Return has been creating beaver habitat on this creek by planting willows, constructing exclosure fencing, and building beaver dam analogs. On April 9th, volunteers will plant willow cuttings in predrilled holes as illustrated below. No experience is necessary. The site is approximately a two-hour drive from Albuquerque.
If you want to participate or you have questions, please email Karen Menetrey, karen@riograndereturn.org or call (505) 603-1328 by the Saturday prior to the event (April 7th for the Cebolla). Please copy Ron Loehman at ronloehman@gmail.com. We will send out detailed instructions and directions on the Monday before the event.
Please consider volunteering. This was a popular project last year and participants had a good time while doing something significant for trout habitat.
