From the May/June 2014 Newsletter The Homer's knot is named for one of the godfathers of sportfishing, Homer Circle. It has been attributed to Lefty Kreh who evolved it during a series of tests to create a strong loop knot. It was then incorporated into the book "Practical Fishing Knots" which Lefty co-authored with Mark Sosin. Fly, Notes and Photo by Greg Thomas Used by Permission From March 2014 newsletter Hook: Scud Hook, size 16 Thread: Orange Body: Orange yarn As amazing as it sounds, we're on the cusp of quality trout fishing in the Rockies. Which brings me to this question: What is your favorite spring setup? I'll explain mine here. It's so rudimentary it's almost embarrassing. What I like about this combination, however, is that the patterns are easy to tie so you don't have to worry about breaking your rig off on the bottom, which is usually where you need to place this ... From March 2014 newsletter The Palomar knot is not as widely used as the Improved Clinch Knot, but has some advantages for tying a fly to tippet that might make you a convert. Pros: Relatively easy to tie; Typically 90% of line strength Cons: Requires leader to pass through the eye twice; Uses a larger amount of leader than Clinch knots One other advantage is that it makes it less likely to drop and lose your fly while tying it on; one has a hold of the fly while threading the tippet through the eye (twice), and thereafter the loop of the ...
