Oasis State Park in Portales, with support from the Friends of Oasis is holding their 26th Annual Kids Fishin' Clinic on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Kids aged 6-17 will have the opportunity to learn all about various fishing techniques, water safety, fish biology and learn the difference between a trout and a catfish by rotating through nine learning stations. Lunch for participants is provided at noon and sponsored by the Community Services Center and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Portales. Our annual member BBQ will be held on Saturday, June 4 in conjunction with a work project on the Rio Cebolla. We have worked with Santa Fe National Forest staff to identify a three-part project that will provide important benefits to the Rio Cebolla.
- Planting willow cuttings along the Cebolla inside one of the areas fenced off as NM Meadow Jumping Mouse habitat.
- Building vehicle barriers to protect stream banks that are eroding sediment into the Cebolla.
- Removing campfire rings inside the newly-constructed vehicle barriers that are too close to the stream and are an additional source of stream pollution. We will ... Read More

New Mexico Trout is proud to bring the Fly Fishing Film Tour to Albuquerque. Watch a variety of films, swap stories, and support conservation all at the same time.There will be refreshments and a raffle. The showing will be Thursday, May 12 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The doors open at 5:00 and the films start at 6:30. Come for social time, with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Due to a multitude of requests this year’s event will offer a beer and wine cash bar to be managed by the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Brian Beaudoin Conclave Chair New Mexico Trout's Annual Conclave was held on 6 February and was a great success with over 200 attendees, including many women fly fishers. Our three exceptional guests, Skip Morris, Van Beacham and Karen Denison, provided entertaining and educational presentations about local and regional waters, fishing techniques, and fly patterns. Skip Morris, a well-known author of eighteen fly-fishing and fly-tying books, gave informative tips for beginning and seasoned fly fishers with three presentations on fishing with dry flies / emergers, with nymphs, and in creeks.
